About this postcard

A dark, weathered rock mass rises from the shore at York Beach, Maine, with open water and a pale sky behind it. The caption names the formation the "Old Man of the Sea." York Beach was a summer resort village in the town of York, on a southern Maine coast known for granite ledges and surf. Named rocks and ledges gave vacationers natural landmarks to seek out along the beach in the early 1900s.
