About this postcard
The view shows a white-walled church with an arched entrance and a domed tower, set among tall palms, curving walks, lawns, and flower beds. A few small figures give a sense of scale on the grounds. The printed caption calls it the Old Mission Chapel, while the sender's note names it the "Capilla de la Reina de los Angeles." That is the old Plaza Church, La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles, the parish church that served the pueblo of Los Angeles rather than one of the California missions. Begun in the early 19th century, it is the city's oldest church and a landmark of the old plaza.
