About this postcard
The card pictures the Old Pepperell Mansion at Kittery Point, Maine: a large gambrel-roofed clapboard house with two brick chimneys, set behind a white picket fence among mature trees. The house belonged to the Pepperrell family, whose most famous member, Sir William Pepperrell, was a colonial merchant and soldier who led the 1745 expedition against Louisbourg. The caption spells the name Pepperell; the family is usually recorded as Pepperrell. The view is a color-printed photographic image issued by the Detroit Photographic Co. and copyrighted 1901.
