A sandy woodland lane winds between mossy boulders and tall pines on Wolf Hill, printed as the card's own caption names it. Wolf Hill, just south of Gettysburg, saw sharp fighting on July 2–3, 1863, when Confederate forces tried to seize the high ground overlooking the town and the Baltimore Pike. In the early 20th century the wooded slopes became a quiet stop for battlefield visitors, and views like this one emphasized the rustic lanes and granite outcrops of the former battlefield.
No white border; grainy tinted lithographic texture; slightly rounded/abraded corners and light edge wear.
No postmark; divided back; The Rotograph Co. imprint, printed in Germany; light toning/wear.
