About this postcard

A street-level view of the Old South Meeting House at Washington and Milk Streets, its brick tower, clock, and white spire rising above storefronts, awnings, and neighboring commercial buildings. Pedestrians and vintage automobiles fill the street in front of the meeting house. The congregation built the meeting house in 1729, and it became a center of Boston's resistance to British taxation. The printed caption says the mass meetings held here "actually fired the Revolution" and that the plot for the Boston Tea Party took shape in the building. By the mid-twentieth century it was a familiar historic landmark in downtown Boston.
