About this postcard
An open-sided shed at Fort Bridger holds a wooden wagon wheel and a farm implement, with log and frame outbuildings, a small whitewashed cabin, and a larger red-roofed barn set behind a split-rail fence. Tall shade trees and a broad dirt yard fill the foreground under a blue sky with clouds. The site is the old fort and trading post on U.S. 30 in western Wyoming, first established by the mountain man and scout Jim Bridger. In the mid-19th century it served as a supply stop and refuge for emigrants on the overland trails, and its preserved buildings later became a roadside stop for highway travelers.
