A barn-red frame building serves as the Old Village Store in Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania, its facade decorated with Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs and a hanging lantern beside the open door. Two girls in plain dress and bonnets sit on a bench at left while five boys in straw hats, suspenders and dark trousers pose on the walk in front. Bird in Hand lies in Lancaster County's Amish country, and the scene's period clothing and folk decoration present the area's traditional rural life for the tourist trade.
