About this postcard

A small weathered clapboard house with a shingled roof and a chimney stands behind a picket fence on St. George Street, its walls draped in purple wisteria and its yard bright with flowers; a banner reading "OLDEST SCHOOL HOUSE" hangs from poles at the right. The building is presented as the oldest schoolhouse in St. Augustine, the Spanish-founded settlement of 1565 that bills itself as the oldest continuously occupied European city in the United States. The structure is a popular early-20th-century tourist stop in the city's restored colonial quarter.
