About this postcard
A two-story clapboard mill building with a gray gabled roof and stone foundation stands at the water's edge, its dark reflection filling the calm river in the foreground; a timber bridge or sluice structure and a rough stone retaining wall extend to the right, with bare and budding trees behind. The card names the site as the "Oldtide Mill" on the Merrimac (Merrimack) River, the New England waterway that powered numerous grist, saw and textile mills in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The pastel tinting and grainy screen are typical of inexpensive color-printed view cards of the 1900sā1910s.
