About this postcard
A colorful, romanticized view of Olvera Street in Los Angeles, with strolling figures in Mexican dress, a man strumming a guitar, and rows of pottery and baskets spread out for sale beneath a flower-trimmed awning and a pepper tree. Olvera Street is the short, brick-paved lane just north of the Plaza, preserved in the late 1920s as a Mexican marketplace and today part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. Cards like this one, printed in the 1930s, sold the street as "typical of early Los Angeles."
