The Oneonta Tunnel cuts through a sheer rock wall on the Columbia River Highway, with a wooden guardrail following the road at its base and evergreen trees crowding the cliff top. The highway was an early scenic automobile route through the Columbia River Gorge, and the tunnel was one of the rock passages that carried motorists past the gorge's cliffs. Distant hills show at left beyond the road.
