Rows of orange trees heavy with fruit run along sandy paths toward a distant tree line, with cumulus clouds filling a broad blue sky and a glimpse of water at the horizon. The printed caption places the grove in Florida's Lake Region, the citrus district around Winter Haven and Lake Wales. Grove views like this presented the state's winter fruit crop as an orderly, productive landscape.
