About this postcard
The scan shows an uncut sheet repeating the same panel three times: a cluster of ripe oranges hanging among glossy green leaves and white, star-shaped citrus blossoms against a pale blue ground, with the caption "ORANGES AND BLOSSOMS" printed beside each panel. The image is a generic decorative fruit-and-flower study rather than a view of a specific grove, a stock subject sold widely in Southern California and Florida. Citrus still shaped Los Angeles in the 1930s, when groves covered parts of the region and the fruit anchored the local economy and its advertising art. Gardner-Thompson Co. of Los Angeles produced this kind of brightly colored linen card for the tourist trade.
