About this postcard

The photograph shows a mahogany serpentine sideboard in a Mount Vernon room, set with a silver urn, two open knife boxes, decanters, and a silver salver. A framed portrait hangs above it; the caption identifies the sitter as Lawrence Washington, George Washington's elder half-brother, from whom Washington eventually inherited Mount Vernon. A second portrait appears at right. The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, which preserved the estate as a historic house museum, published the view.
