About this postcard
The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway depot at Richmond, Indiana: a long two-story brick station with a columned portico and pediment at the left, arched windows along the ground floor, and a broad train shed extending to the right, with an early automobile and a horse-drawn wagon in the street. The P.C.C. & St. L. — commonly called the "Panhandle" — was a Pennsylvania Railroad affiliate whose line through Richmond made the city an important rail junction in eastern Indiana. The scene captures the mix of horse and motor traffic typical of the first decade of the twentieth century.
