Palacio de Gobierno, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, circa 1920

About this postcard

The picture shows the Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace) in Santo Domingo, a two-story building whose arcaded gallery of round arches runs along the upper floor above a shaded ground-level portico, with tall shuttered windows on the plainer wing at right. A few figures stand near the arched entrance and a street with utility poles and a distant vehicle stretches away at left. The card presents the seat of government of the Dominican Republic's capital, the oldest continuously inhabited European-founded city in the Americas, whose colonial core lies nearby.
