About this postcard
A tinted view of the Palacio del Gobernador facing the Plaza de Armas in old San Juan, a two-story neoclassical building with a colonnaded upper facade, shuttered windows and a long yellow-railed balcony over a dark arcaded ground floor; a few figures in white summer clothing stand in the street. The palace served as the official residence and office of Puerto Rico's governors, first Spanish and after 1898 American. The handwritten note identifies it as the home of Governor William Henry Hunt, the island's first civilian U.S. governor (1901–1904), which matches the 1904 date written on the card.
