Palestine Park, Chautauqua, New York, circa 1906

About this postcard

A view along the shore of Chautauqua Lake, with a small stream running down to the water in the foreground, a sailboat and rowboats offshore, and a large multi-story building rising among tall trees on the bank. The printed caption names the spot as Palestine Park at Chautauqua, New York, a landscaped scale model of the Holy Land laid out beside the lake in 1874 as a teaching aid for the Chautauqua Institution's Bible study programs. Figures stand near the water and along the stream, and a bench and small dock appear at the shoreline.
