About this postcard

A narrow road curves across a steep, forested mountainside at the Pali, with a stone retaining wall and guardrail on the downhill side. A small vehicle or carriage on the road gives scale to the green slope near Honolulu. The Pali is the windward pass over the Koolau Range and was long the main route between Honolulu and the windward side of Oahu. The road's cut and retaining wall reflect early 20th-century engineering on the steep crossing.
