Palmetto Row was a shaded drive lined with tall cabbage palmettos and other palms, with a low stone wall and hedge on the left and a sandy path curving into the distance. In the early 20th century Daytona's mild winter climate and subtropical vegetation drew Northern visitors, and palm-lined routes like this were promoted as scenic drives. A view card sent north to Brooklyn in March 1918 fit that winter-resort tourist trade.
