Viewed through a dark stone window opening high in Bruges's Belfry, the panorama looks across a dense field of roofs toward a large Gothic cathedral and its tall tower. The stone sill and masonry of the tower frame the town below, with the cathedral rising above the surrounding buildings. The Halletoren, or Belfry, has overlooked the Markt since the medieval period and remains one of the city's best-known landmarks; the upper-floor viewpoint gives the card its wide, roof-level prospect.
