Panorama of Cheyenne, Wyoming, circa 1950

About this postcard

An elevated view looks across a section of Cheyenne, Wyoming, with trees, houses, and small commercial buildings spread through the middle ground. At left, an industrial complex and tall red smokestacks stand out against the skyline, and a road or rail line runs through the foreground. The printed caption reads "PANORAMA OF A SECTION OF CHEYENNE, WYOMING" and adds "The Crossroads of the Nation." Cheyenne grew as a Union Pacific railroad town after the line arrived in the 1860s, and its rail connections made the crossroads label stick. The smokestacks at left suggest the railroad shops and industrial yards that kept the city busy.
