About this postcard
The card pairs two Nashville landmarks that carry the city's classical and frontier identities. The upper view shows the columned Parthenon in Centennial Park, a full-size replica of the Athenian temple, along with a statue. The Parthenon is a symbol of Nashville's nickname, the Athens of the South. The lower view shows the log fort of Fort Nashborough, which the caption calls a faithful reproduction of the original fort built in 1780 on the banks of the Cumberland River. The Parthenon was first built for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition and later rebuilt in permanent form. Fort Nashborough recalls the first settlement that grew into the city.
