About this postcard

The passenger concourse of Washington's New Union Station: a long, nearly empty hall under a vast barrel-vaulted roof of glass and steel, with a colonnaded wall of tall windows on the left, dark ticket and gate booths along the right, and a few travelers in early-1900s dress. Union Station opened in 1907, designed by Daniel H. Burnham in the Beaux-Arts style and built by the Pennsylvania Railroad and Baltimore & Ohio as a joint terminal. Its vast concourse was among the largest interior spaces in the city, and the view catches the scale of the new station in its first years.
