A brick archway hung with lanterns frames a shaded courtyard at Patio Royal in New Orleans. Palms and broad-leafed plants fill beds around a small lawn, and a striped awning covers part of the patio. Walled courtyards like this are a common New Orleans response to the heat, turning narrow rear lots into private outdoor rooms.
Linen texture; no white border visible.
No postmark. Divided-back C.T. Art-Colortone linen card printed by Curt Teich & Co., Chicago (card no. 7A-H968), ca. 1937. No stamp, no address; the address side carries a printed historical description of the patio and garden (417 Royal Street, formerly the Louisiana Bank of 1804 and later home of Paul Morphy, now a restaurant), plus a small pencil notation '9/23' written diagonally. Light foxing/toning on the cream stock.
