A long concrete gravity dam curves across the Pedlar River, holding back a broad blue reservoir, with a small red-roofed gatehouse on the far bank and wooded, road-switchbacked hills rising behind. The card names it as the dam built on the Pedlar River to supply water to Lynchburg, Virginia. Lynchburg's waterworks on the Pedlar River in Amherst County were developed in the early 20th century, damming the stream in the Blue Ridge foothills to create a reservoir for the city roughly twenty miles away.
