About this postcard
The Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg stands behind a wide plaza, its dome centered above long colonnaded wings. Two square towers marked 1776 and 1861 rise in the foreground, and star-topped lamps line the approach under a blue sky with clouds. Harrisburg has been Pennsylvania's capital since 1812; the present Beaux-Arts Capitol was completed in 1906 after fire destroyed the previous building. The dates on the towers link the nation's founding and the Civil War, a pairing common in civic memorials of the era.
