A busy downtown street crowded with pedestrians, a green trolley car at right, an automobile and a wagon at left, and multi-story brick commercial blocks lining both sides; a large rooftop sign reads "PECKS" and a "HOTEL" sign crowns the building at left. Petticoat Lane was Kansas City's popular name for a stretch of 11th Street given over to clothing, millinery and dry-goods shops, and the view captures the mix of foot traffic, street railway and early motor vehicles typical of the era.
