Workers harvest oranges in a grove, some on ladders among the leafy trees while others fill wooden crates marked "L.H.C.U." along the dirt rows. The scene belongs to Southern California's citrus boom of the early 1900s, when Pasadena-area groves supplied a packing and shipping trade that sent fruit east. Margaret's note on the card catches the harvest mood: she writes that she is helping pack, then corrects herself, "I mean eating."
