About this postcard

The card shows Piedmont Business College in Lynchburg, Virginia, a three-story white building with a columned entrance porch, set behind a lawn and young trees. A few students walk along the sidewalk in front. The school advertises itself with the claims "NO VACATION," "ENTER ANY TIME," "WE OWN OUR BUILDING," "10,000 FORMER STUDENTS," "POSITIONS SECURED," and "CATALOGUE FREE." Business colleges of the period trained students in bookkeeping, penmanship, shorthand, and typewriting for office work, and appeals to year-round enrollment and job placement were common.
