About this postcard
The view looks through the red sandstone fins of the Garden of the Gods toward Pikes Peak, the broad mountain rising beyond the park's gateway formations. Green scrub and a pale dirt path fill the foreground under a pale blue sky. The Garden of the Gods, just west of Colorado Springs, was donated to the city in 1909 by the family of Charles Elliott Perkins on the condition that it remain free to the public. Pikes Peak, listed at 14,110 feet, was a familiar symbol of Colorado Springs as a resort and health destination. The sender's note records a ride up the peak by cog railway, a tourist route to the summit since the 1890s, and the thin air there.
