About this postcard

The view shows the Pillsbury Mills complex in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the mill's name and a large "A" on the facade and railroad boxcars on tracks in the foreground. A bridge railing and utility pole frame the lower-left corner. The Pillsbury A Mill, completed in 1881, was for a time the world's largest flour mill and stood at the center of the city's Mississippi riverfront milling district. The card's printed text promotes Minneapolis as both a lumber center and the largest flour manufacturing place in the world, with more than 25 mills and a combined capacity of over 60,000 barrels a day. That claim reflects the city's role in the early twentieth-century flour trade, when its mills drew power from St. Anthony Falls and shipped flour across the country.
