The Pink Palace stands across a broad lawn, its long red-brick facade and green roof partly screened by dense trees and flowering shrubs. Blue sky and light clouds fill the upper half of the view. The house was built for Clarence Saunders, founder of the Piggly Wiggly grocery chain, but his financial collapse halted work in the 1920s. The city of Memphis later acquired the property and opened it in 1930 as the Memphis Museum of Natural History and Industrial Arts.
