About this postcard
The view looks down the Rue de la Paix from the Place de l'Opéra toward the Colonne Vendôme, with automobiles, pedestrians, awnings, and shop signs filling the street. The Rue de la Paix was a fashionable shopping street linking the Palais Garnier area to Place Vendôme, where the Napoleonic column, modeled on Trajan's Column and cast from captured cannon, stands at the far end of the perspective. The message is dated 1938 and describes a traveler's tour of Paris and the battlefields before continuing to Geneva, Nice, Monte Carlo, and Rome.
