A color view of the Plum Island Light station: a white clapboard keeper's dwelling with a porch and shingled roof stands in front of the tall white conical tower and its dark lantern room, with outbuildings and a sandy beach in the foreground. Plum Island Light marks the southern entrance to the Merrimack River at Newburyport. Shifting sands have long threatened the station, and the light has been moved from its original site. The card carries a simple New Year's greeting, a common use for scenic postcards in the early 1900s.
