About this postcard
A three-story red-brick municipal building with steep green-slate gabled roofs, stone trim, arched windows and a raised basement behind an iron fence, seen from the street corner with a single early automobile parked at the left. The card names it as Dorchester's combined police station, court house and library, a multi-purpose civic block serving the Boston neighborhood. Dorchester was an independent town until its annexation by Boston in 1870, and such combined municipal buildings were common in growing streetcar suburbs of the period.
