About this postcard
A large Romanesque-style stone post office with a clock tower and steep slate roofs stands at a downtown corner in Manchester, New Hampshire. An American flag flies from the central cupola, and pedestrians in period coats and hats pass the entrance steps. Commercial buildings line the left side, where a storefront marked PARR'S faces the street. The building's stone walls, steep roofs, and clock tower gave the post office a civic presence in a mill city. Manchester's textile mills made it one of New England's busiest industrial centers in the early 1900s, and a downtown post office of this scale fit that role.
