Postcard message from Laurel Park camp, Clarksburg, WV, 1938

About this postcard
Twila writes to Joe Province Jr. of Shinnston, West Virginia, from a camping trip at Laurel Park, about four and a half miles above Clarksburg. She apologizes for not writing sooner, explaining that no post cards were available and that she bought this one in town. The camp lies on the right just after the steel bridge, and she asks Joe to come up as early in the afternoon as he can and stay all evening. The note catches the ordinary logistics of a 1930s summer outing: a short motor trip from town, a spot picked out by a bridge crossing, and an invitation passed along by mail. Clarksburg, the Harrison County seat, served the surrounding communities like Shinnston as a place to shop, post mail, and start the drive into the hills.
