The Israel River flows past a gravel bar and low wooded banks, with a single tall tree at right and the blue ridges of the Presidential Range across the horizon. The river rises on the slopes of the Presidential Range in the White Mountains and runs through Jefferson, New Hampshire, a town that drew summer visitors to grand resort hotels and mountain excursions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
