A young Prince Edward, later King Edward VIII, sits astride a pony in a dark riding habit and cap on a gravel path. A clipped hedge and the windows of a building fill the background. The printed caption calls him "H.R.H. Prince Edward of Wales. Our Future Sovereign," a phrase that looked ahead to his eventual accession. Born in 1894, Edward was the eldest son of George V and became Prince of Wales in 1910. Royal childhood portraits like this were popular British souvenirs in the years before the First World War.
Black-and-white halftone print with a thin white border; worn and chipped corners, edge wear and a faint horizontal crease across the middle.
No postmark. Divided-back private card: printed "POST CARD." heading, "COMMUNICATION HERE. INLAND ONLY" / "ADDRESS HERE" panels, "STAMP" box marked "Printed in Bavaria", and left-edge imprint "THE STAR SERIES — G.D. & D., LONDON." — typical c. 1905–1915 import. Card is unused; light corner wear and a crease at the stamp box.
