About this postcard

A tree-lined stretch of Prospect Avenue recedes beneath a tinted evening sky, with a large stone mansion at right showing a corner turret and gabled roofline. By the early 1900s, Prospect Avenue on Milwaukee's east side was known as a mansion row, lined with the homes of brewers, bankers, and industrialists on the bluff above Lake Michigan. The printed caption spells the street "Prospekt," a German rendering of Prospect.
