About this postcard
A tinted view of the Public Library and Museum in Milwaukee shows a four-story classical Revival building with a columned facade, heavy cornice, and red-capped dome, set behind a lawn with a statue on a pedestal and parked automobiles. The printed caption calls it a building of 300 by 250 feet in the heart of the city, open every day without admission. It describes a library of about half a million books for home circulation and study, and a museum noted for natural science exhibits, especially large environment groups, with free lecture courses. The library and museum shared the building, completed in the late 1890s from designs by Ferry & Clas, until the museum moved to separate quarters in the 1960s.
