A street-level view of the Boston Public Library's McKim Building on Copley Square, showing its long arcaded Renaissance Revival facade, tile roof, and row of arched windows. A streetcar passes in the foreground. Charles Follen McKim of McKim, Mead & White designed the building, which opened in 1895 and drew on the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève in Paris. Its Bates Hall reading room and murals by Puvis de Chavannes made it a civic landmark.
