About this postcard
A street-level view of the Boston Public Library's McKim Building on Copley Square, with its long arcaded Italian Renaissance facade, tile roof and row of arched windows, a streetcar passing in the foreground. Designed by Charles Follen McKim of McKim, Mead & White and opened in 1895, the building was modeled on the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève in Paris and is famed for its Bates Hall reading room and Puvis de Chavannes murals. The card was issued by the Souvenir Post Card Co. of New York in the first decade of the twentieth century.
