About this postcard
A steaming thermal pool with a raised, terraced rim of yellow, orange and rust-colored mineral deposits sits on a pale sinter flat, backed by a stand of tall, thin lodgepole pines against a pink-tinged sky. The card names it Punch Bowl Spring in Yellowstone Park, one of the many hot springs and geyser basins of the Upper Geyser Basin area that early park photographers such as F. Jay Haynes made famous. Haynes, the Northern Pacific Railroad's official photographer and later Yellowstone's official photographer, sold hand-colored views like this through his Haynes Picture Shops in the park.
