Quality Court Motel Lake, Norfolk, VA, circa 1964
About this postcard
An elevated view shows the Quality Court Motel Lake as a long, low white complex with red-brown roofs arranged around a central parking court. A larger office or restaurant building with a rooftop sign stands at the left. Behind the motel are a lake or pond, green fields, a curving divided highway, and flat wooded country stretching to the horizon under a blue sky.
The layout, with rooms facing the parking court, is typical of the motor-court motels built for car travel in the 1950s and 1960s. The motel advertised an 18-hole championship golf course, a draw for travelers on Northampton Boulevard, a main route toward Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which opened in 1964.
