About this postcard

A view looking up at the steel cantilever span of the Queensborough Bridge as it sweeps across the East River, with a masonry anchorage pier at left and a small steam tug puffing along the water below. On the far shore stands the pale, multi-winged block of New York Hospital, surrounded by lower brick tenements and industrial buildings. The Queensborough (Queensboro) Bridge, completed in 1909 to a design by Gustav Lindenthal, was for a time the longest cantilever bridge in the world and carried elevated railway lines on its upper deck; New York Hospital, founded in 1771, occupied its York Avenue buildings on the East River from the 1930s.
