A three-story brick school building with a dark hipped roof and two tall chimneys, set back behind a curving walkway and lawn. A flagpole stands to the right of the entrance, with houses visible in the background.
Waltham, on the Charles River west of Boston, was a manufacturing city in 1914, home to the Waltham Watch Company and to an early integrated textile mill. The card was mailed from Waltham that June to a recipient in Mattapan, carrying a note about an umbrella left behind in Boston and a request for news from home.
