Race track and grandstand, State Fair Park, Dallas, Texas, circa 1940

About this postcard

A dense crowd fills the apron and the covered grandstand of the State Fair race track at Dallas, Texas, with horses and riders moving along the track in the foreground and a red-roofed judges' or betting pavilion and American flags beyond. The State Fair of Texas, held each autumn at Fair Park since 1886, drew huge crowds to its horse racing program before the track was discontinued in the mid-20th century. The grandstand and infield structures shown here belong to the fairgrounds that later became home to the 1936 Texas Centennial exposition buildings.
