A view along the rocky shore of Red Rocks in Burlington, Vermont, where layered red-brown ledges meet the choppy water of Lake Champlain, with a dense band of evergreen and birch trees lining the bank and a pale sunset sky beyond. Red Rocks Park, a wooded promontory on the city's south shore, preserves these fossil-bearing red sandstone outcrops and cliffs above the lake. The scene is typical of early twentieth-century scenic views of Burlington and the Champlain Valley.
